Welcome to “New Southbound Warm Power Up”! This podcast is curated by Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation (TAEF) and produced by Heartwave.What does TAEF do? We are dedicated to advancing the New Southbound Policy, fostering friendly relationships with Southeast Asian societies through “soft power” and “warm power” in areas such as cultures and arts, academic think tanks, youth leadership, regional resilience, and civil society. After years of effort, we are thrilled to present the first season of our podcast, which consists of six episodes and seven short segments. Hope you have a wonderful listening experience!This is the first episode of this podcast, with the topic of  “Warm Power Connectivity - The Southbound Story of TAEF.” 

We invited Dr. Alan H. Yang, Executive Director of TAEF, to talk about the active efforts made by TAEF in new southbound countries in the past six years. While telling heart-warming stories about making friends in the new southbound region, Dr. Yang also shared his starting point of Southeast Asian studies and his future expectations for the friendship between Taiwan and the new southbound countries. Through this program, we hope our listeners will have a better understanding of the fruitful outcomes of the New Southbound Policy.

Guest Speaker: 


Dr. Alan H. Yang (Executive Director of TAEF)

Dr. Yang teaches at the Graduate Institute of East Asian Studies (GIEAS) as a distinguished professor at National Chengchi University. He also serves as the director of the Chinese Language Center and the Executive Director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) at National Chengchi University. In 2018, TAEF was established and he has served as the first Executive Director to this day, actively assisting the government in promoting the New Southbound Policy. He has been engaged in Southeast Asian studies for a long time, and has also been involved in Taiwan’s participation and promotion of Track II diplomacy in the Asia-Pacific region, including various activities and research groups of the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia-Pacific (CSCAP), as well as forums and think-tank-cooperation.

Cherri was born and raised in Hong Kong. Having earned her Bachelor’s degree in Translation at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, she is now studying Chinese-English Conference Interpreting at National Taiwan University’s Graduate Program for Translation and Interpreting.
