TAEF's partner institute, Global Taiwan Institute's Executive Director, Russel Hsiao, has contributed an article entitled "Challenges and Opportunities for Advancing Taiwan-Malaysia Relations under Prime Minister Anwar bin Ibrahim" to GTI's Quarterly Connections.

The article highlighted Southeast Asia's growing strategic and geopolitical importance, amid the competition between the United States and China. Malaysia, positioned as a middle power within the region, wields significant regional influence and is a key player in Taiwan's "New Southbound Policy." The 2018 elections in Malaysia resulted in a transfer of power, and the election of Anwar bin Ibrahim as the country's 10th prime minister in November 2022 marked a potential shift in Malaysian politics and its foreign relations, including its ties with Taiwan. The article examines recent trends in Taiwan-Malaysia relations and Malaysia's relations with China, presenting the challenges and opportunities for advancing bilateral relations in the future.
